Chlorinated water supplies

Chlorinated town water supplies are becoming more common. The taste and smell can be unpleasant along with skin irritations from showering or concerns when using the water for cooking. To remove or reduce chlorine from household water we offer two basic packages comprising of a 1 micron pre-filter and an activated carbon treatment unit for chlorine reduction. The two systems are based on the size of the house, the smaller of the two for a two bedroom house and the larger for three or four bedrooms. We can also provide systems for larger houses, multiple dwellings and industrial applications. The systems include all consumables and are designed to be plumbed in to the mains so that you have safe clean drinking water from any outlet in the house!

Water chlorination is the process of adding chlorine (Cl2) or hypochlorite to water. Chlorine is a highly efficient disinfectant, and is added to public water supplies to kill disease-causing pathogens, such as bacteria, viruses, and protozoans, that commonly grow in water supply reservoirs, on the walls of water mains and in storage tanks. Disinfection by chlorination can be problematic, in some circumstances. Chlorine can react with naturally occurring organic compounds found in the water supply to produce compounds known as disinfection by-products (DBPs). The most common DBPs are trihalomethanes (THMs) and haloacetic acids (HAAs). Trihalomethanes are the main disinfectant by-products created from chlorination with two different types, bromoform and dibromochloromethane, which are mainly responsible for health hazards. Activated carbon filters are most effective at removing chlorine, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), taste and odour from water. They are not effective at removing minerals, salts, and dissolved inorganic compounds (DOCs).
